Some swift facts about the word chorizo

Over the last few years, chorizo has become such a popular part of many recipes; we thought you’d like a couple of key facts about how this tasty delight was named…

  1. There are a range of different forms of the word. We call it chorizo; in the Basque region of Europe it’s txorizo; for Catalan folk nearby it’s xoriço; and the Portuguese use chouriço. Incidentally, in Cajun and Creole cooking, a variety known as chaurice is popular.
  2. The word itself is likely to originate from the Latin term ‘salsīcia’ meaning salted.

Fascinating! But of course, you’ll be even more interested in how great it tastes in our El Chubby’s Mexican restaurant favorite Huevos Con Chorizo!
