Rolling tortillas around other tasty morsels dates back to the Mayan civilization in Mexico. As the Spanish conquered, they ate feasts served in corn tortillas. A US visitor mentioned them back in the 1880s and a recipe appeared in an English language cookbook well over a century ago. And that was more than 80 years after their debut in a Mexican cookbook.
